A Level 5 drywall finish is the highest standard of drywall finishing and is recommended for areas with critical lighting (bright, direct, or angled light) or high-gloss paint.
It includes all the steps of a Level 4 finish—taping joints, applying multiple coats of joint compound, and sanding smooth—but adds an additional skim coat of joint compound over the entire surface. This skim coat creates a perfectly uniform, smooth surface that eliminates visible seams, fasteners, and texture variations once painted.
